About the Concert Series
The “Howlin’ at the Moon” Concert Series showcases local and regional music from a variety of genres including but not limited to Americana, indie, bluegrass, surf, folk, and more. The concert series is hosted and presented by the Schenectady County Historical Society at the Mabee Farm Historic Site in Rotterdam Junction, NY, to provide an authentic musical experience for both audience and musicians. Music traditions are meant to be fluid and evolving — this concert series nurtures local and regional musical talent while providing opportunities for cross-pollination and to share musical ideas, all in a 1760 Dutch Barn that inspires and reminds us of our place within history.
The “Howlin’ at the Moon” Concert Series was originated by Dale and Joan Wade-Keszey in 2008 and is currently in its 16th season. Each month from May through September, head out to the Mabee Farm for a night of live music. The shows begin at 7:00PM. Admission is $10 at the door. Refreshments available. Depending on conditions, concerts will be held in the Dutch barn or under the pavilion behind the George E. Franchere Education Center, both at 1100 Main St., Rotterdam Junction, NY 12150.

The Mammals are folksingers Ruth Ungar, Mike Merenda, and a cohort of compelling collaborators who form a touring quintet on the fiddle, banjo, guitar, organ, bass, and drums. Over the past 20 years they have quietly composed a canon of original songs (“Some of the best songwriting of their generation.” -LA Times) that both reflect our culture and offer a vision of how the world might yet be. “These days we sing about what we’re for over what we’re against,” says songwriter, Mike Merenda, and what they’re for is “nothing short of sublime” according to Americana UK.

Goodnight Moonshine
w/ Everest Rising
Thursday, July 18, 2024
7:00 PM – 9:00PM
Goodnight Moonshine is a guitar and vocal duet, and a musical marriage in all senses. The duo combines the evocative voice and songwriting of Molly Venter, known for her sublime singing in the prominent female-vocal-group Red Molly, with Eben Pariser – who cut his teeth as a street performer in New York City, playing guttural music of New Orleans with his band Roosevelt Dime. The result is folk music with a depth of improvisation and tonal subtlety usually reserved for jazz.

Belle-Skinner
w/ Everest Rising
Thursday, September 19, 2024
7:00 PM – 9:00PM
Belle-Skinner is a dark nostalgic singer-songwriter based in New York. With a hauntingly beautiful, lilting soprano and innate sense of melody she crafts tales of songbirds, sirens and desert nomads – nuanced and layered stories which bridge the gap between past and present. Though her influences cover a broad range of genres – from French chansons and Russian folk to contemporary alt-pop and rock – her voice often draws comparisons to the likes of Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, Jeff Buckley, Mary Hopkin, and early St. Vincent.
